A very Merry Christmas

A portrait of Mojo has been on my wish list since I found out about and quickly fell in love with the Pet Portraits painted by the uber talented Kim from Yellow Brick Home.

Guys, I must have been really nice this year because this was waiting amongst the boxes marked “To: H Love: A”

OMG! I can’t even…

Look at all those perfectly placed spots! The detail work is amazing. Kim is amazing. Seriously, if you haven’t drooled over her work, go right now.

Kim – Thank you so, so much! It’s even more incredible than I ever dreamed.

Obviously, Aaron is also amazing. He confessed to confiscating my phone under the guise of a “software update” to get access to more pictures of Mo (because if you follow me on Instagram you know it’s basically more Mojo than anyone can handle). Then he worked with Kim to choose the perfect images – this is actually a composite (seriously, stop it! I  couldn’t be more impressed) because our photo hating dog (yes, there is a lot of irony there) didn’t give Aaron the exact look he wanted.

Mojo approves (or is very confused).

What did I get him? Well, most of my funds went toward a Mac Daddy smoker when his second cheap-o option bit the dust this fall. We can now smoke a rack of ribs, a brisket, a duck and two turkey thighs at once. But I also tucked a few decanters under the tree. He rounded out my art-centric holiday with two maps (one KC and one St Louis) and a few items from Anthropologie.

What was your favorite gift (to give or receive) this season? Our favorite item to give away was a sweet plastic semi-truck that can store 50 Hot Wheel cars that went to our nephew. I really wish I would have had the camera ready when he pulled off the wrapping paper.

Wahoo!! I love it when I get to work with boyfriends, husbands and others to sneakily surprise their loved ones with portraits of… loved ones 😉 Can I say “love” anymore?

So happy Mojo’s portrait will be displayed in your amazing home!

We got a Kim painting of our pup this year, too! A couple months ago for my boyfriend’s birthday in October, though. I was FREAKING OUT (with excitement) after I ordered it because I loved the picture we chose so much, and freaking out even more after it was in my hands and I could see how amazing it was!!! I’m horrible at keeping surprises a secret because I get TOO EXCITED, but I got it all out of my system by showing it to my coworkers and all of our friends so thankfully it was a surprise for the BF and he loved it! So excited for you! 🙂

Best present for me this year BY FAR was that he got me a KitchenAid stand mixer!!!!!11!1 😉 Professional 550 model, cobalt blue. I have dreamed about this shit FOR YEARS!!!! Oh and I’m getting him a bike, but I wanted him to help pick it out so I haven’t actually bought it yet, haha.

I’m the same way. I can’t keep anything a secret, especially when I’m excited about it! I have to blow off some of the excited energy by telling others 🙂

YAY! The KitchenAid will totally change your life! Cobalt blue? Nice choice!

Nice gifting as well! Do you guys bike together? If we had more time I think we’d take up biking.

Well, I’ve started biking in a super casual way, just to work (only 1 mile) and to close errands, within a few miles. But I want us to start biking places together (and he’s been wanting to too!) and he didn’t even have a functional bike, so hopefully this works out! 🙂

Nice! Do you have a picture of it on your blog? I did a quick scan but wasn’t sure how far back I should go. Kim does such amazing work and she definitely nailed Mojo 😀

  3. Kati from so happy home

That Aaron, he’s a keeper. Portrait brought a little tear to my nostalgic eye. Kim’s work is so wonderful – personal, sentimental, and beautifully artistic – and so worthy of a proper surprise gift.

Best gift I experienced was giving a small diptych painting to my little sister. It was homespun, crafty, and sentimental. She loved it. I was happy.

Happy new year to you and yours! It’s nice to look back, but even nicer to look ahead. Much love, girl. xoxo
